WHERE SOUTH ASIAN heritage meets bold, creative expression

Our MISSION

Alokita is a socially engaged arts and cultural organisation bringing fresh, underrepresented South Asian voices to the UK’s creative ecology. Founded by Junna Begum, and powered by a collective of artists, creatives, and cultural leaders, we share stories through visual arts, theatre, dance, and heritage — inspired by the resilience of our mothers, fathers, and ancestors. Our work is a dialogue between past and present, between legacy and innovation. We are here to honour, create, inspire and  ensure that the stories of South Asians in the UK live on, and live loud.

WHAT WE DO

We paint our stories in layers, through visual arts, theatre, performance, and heritage. With each project, we aim to challenge, reflect, and rewrite the narrative, shifting focus to the lives of those who have been relegated to the background.

Reclaiming Space:
Our exhibitions, performances, and creative projects create spaces where marginalised voices are heard. We make room for the unseen, where South Asian culture becomes a living, breathing presence in mainstream UK arts.

Telling Untold Stories:
The narrative is not fixed. Through immersive storytelling, we reclaim, redefine, and reshape the stories of those who have come before us, and those who are yet to be heard.

Heritage as Innovation:
Heritage is not a relic — it is a living thread that connects us, and through it, we weave forward into the future. By preserving the past, we shape tomorrow.
